Michael Mequio is an ophthalmologist practicing in the greater Tampa area.  His surgical expertise includes advanced cataract surgery, medical and surgical management of glaucoma, and medical retina therapies.

Prior to private practice Michael served in the United States Air Force.  He achieved the rank of Major and was the Chief of the Ophthalmology at MacDill Air Force base.  He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his service and leadership.

He has a passion for humanitarian medicine and has performed free cataract surgery for underserved populations in Zambia and the Philippines, as well has public health trips to Malaysia and Thailand.

Michael is a graduate of Kalamazoo College and Wayne State University School of Medicine.  He completed residency at Wayne State University where he served as chief resident.

He and his wife Devin have three children.  Together they enjoy exploring the outdoors and traveling.  Michael’s current passions include kite boarding, stand up paddling, and endurance sports.
